It starts with an acoustic guitar, some chords strummed, and a few words scribbled on a crumpled piece of paper. Great songs often start out in this manner.
Its with this earnest method that 7 Years Today forges the songs heard on their debut EP.
With the pre-release of the single “These Four Walls,” the band fast began building a fanbase and receive accolades in the U.S. and abroad. “These Four Walls,” written by Mylon while serving in the U.S. Army is easy to relate to by anyone who has gone through periods of both isolation and hope. In August of 2009, the song hit both #1 on the Mevio Music Alley's Hitmaker Podcast from Japan and was the most requested song for October 2009 on Blockhead Internet Radio.
The band's fast growing fanbase is largely due to its high energy stage show. Consistently, the band walks into a venue and gains new fans based on their energy and quality of music. Playing their first time in San Antonio, opening up for EMI artist Smile Empty Soul at Scout Bar was a prime example of this. The crowd was instantly won over and they gained many new hardcore fans.
The band's influences are as varied as they come when four guys from completely different parts of the country get together to play music. Individually, band members list influences as broad as Led Zeppelin, Staind, Bon Jovi, Alice in Chains, Johnny Cash, Pearl Jam, Lynyrd Skynrd, U2, Ben Harper, etc.
Its this mixture of influences, this passion for song-craft and performance that makes the band stand out. Talent trumps guile, hard-work trumps trendiness. It’s this focused idea that makes 7 Years Today something special to see and hear.
